UK APPLICATIONS SUPPORT Epson 7600/9600 Cutting Issues with No Margin Printing
To enable the printer to perform a cut, a certain length of media needs to be passed beyond the cutter so that a vacuum can be created holding the paper still while the cutter works through the paper. In normal printing this does not cause any wastage, as the leading edge of the paper does not require cutting but only printing. The trailing edge is cut successfully as the printer has the print to vacuum against the platen, holding the paper still for cutting. In `No Margin' mode we are asking the printer to perform a cut on the leading edge of the paper as well. Therefore the printer needs to spool a certain a certain length of paper first to enable it to secure the paper whilst it is cut, leading to a small amount of wastage. Epson have gone to some lengths to minimise wastage by allowing printing to take place before the cut occurs and then to resume printing afterwards. However there will always be an estimated 10cm of wastage on the leading edge when using `No Margin' mode. It is a function of the printer and is to specification.

Printer Settings
On the printer control panel there are three options to alter how cutting is set up when using `No Margin' mode (see page 62 of the Epson 7600/9600 User Manual). Please note that the STUDIO RIP only allows `1 CUT' to operate in `No Margin' printing mode. Setting the printer control panel to `2 CUTS' or `L/R ONLY' will have no effect. Thus the printer will print left and right edge to edge and cut the leading and trailing edges without a border, spooling 10cm of paper in front of the trailing edge. Note also that the settings that the RIP does not use would still spool 10cm of paper in front of the leading edge should a cut be required, and therefore these settings are deemed unnecessary. Please ensure that the `Refresh Margin' setting in the printer control panel is set to `ON' (see page 62 of the Epson 7600/9600 User Manual). This setting can be found under' Select Type - Printer Setup Refresh Margin - ON' (see page 57 of the Epson 7600/9600 User Manual). If this setting is set to `OFF' the printer will spool out 23cm of paper in fromt of the leading edge instead of 10cm.
