OS Advanced Checkpoint/Restart

Release 21

This publication describes advanced checkpoint/restart, a technique
for recording information about a job at programmer-designated
checkpoints so that, if necessary, the job can be restarted at the
beginning of a step or at a checkpoint within a step.
The checkpoint/restart manual describes how to take a checkpoint
and how to restart a job. It also contains systems planning
information. It is intended for use by programmers and system
analysts who are familiar with the information presented in:
OS Job Control Language Reference, GC28-6704
OS Data Management Services Guide, GC26-3746
Fifth Edition (February 1972)
This publication, a part of OS Release 21, is a revision of, and makes obsolete, the
fourth edition (GC28-6708-3) of Advanced Checkpoint/Restart. It applies to all
subsequent releases unless otherwise indicated in new editions or technical newsletters.
Changes may be made to the information in this manual at any time; before using this
publication in connection with the operation of IBM systems, consult the latest SRL
Newsletter, GN20-0360, for the editions that are applicable and current.
