Subject: Common Faults
CHANNEL LOCK UP PROBLEM
SYMPTOM: The position on the Front Information Panel (FIP) can be changed or locked
but the tuner picture is always the same when the customer changes the
channel on the VCR. Also, there is no OSD.
CAUSE: The channel data transmission between IC7706 and IC7704 (serial clock
& serial data) is corrupted (permanently keeping the signal HIGH), but
data transmission of the OSD microprocessor and system microprocessor
are correct (for FIP display). Therefore, the result being that the FIP
display works properly but the tuner data does not, resulting in an error.
REMEDY: Please add the oscillation circuit to prevent the noise effect on IC7708.

Subject: No Sound Using PDC & Non-UK OSD Standard
NO SOUND USING PDC (See models above)
SYMPTOM: No audio on Programmed Delivery Control (PDC) recordings.
CAUSE: Due to tolerance of channel carrier frequency (+/- 200KHz) audio mute
may occur particularly on cable systems.
REMEDY: Where no sound is recorded using PDC we advise that re-tuning is carried
out as follows to store new value for channel offset frequency:-
1) Switch the VTR ON.
2) Switch the machine into shipping condition following the procedures
laid out in the appropriate instruction manual. (This should result
in memory erasure).
3) Switch the machine OFF at the mains.
4) Turning the VTR back ON will initiate the Auto Setup Procedure.

NON UK OSD STANDARD (SD400/HD600 Only)
SYMPTOM: Incorrect OSD data code, resulting in wrong video plus codes and auto time
setting not working.
CAUSE: There is a possibility of the data from IC7704 (EEPROM) getting corrupted
by disturbances on the serial data line between IC7706 (OSD uProcessor),
IC7704 (EEPROM) and IC7708 (TEXT IC). This can be due to switching
of power supply or by static current (thunder).
REMEDY: Change the supply voltage (VDD) of IC7708 (Pins 1, 10) to non-switch 5V
from Reg. 5V.
1. Remove L7704.
2. Add a jumper wire between Pin 28 IC7701 and positive side of C7714.
Reset the OSD data following the procedure in the appropriate service
manual (Page 1-1).

COMMON FAULTS
Applicable Models: SD260/SD410/SD400/HD600/HD605/HD610/HD650/HD660
Symptom: No stations found during auto search.
Cause: C7708 and C7747 (leaky)
Remedy: Replace C7708 (ECUM1H104ZFN) and C7747 (ECUM1H104ZFN).
Applicable Models: SD260/SD410
Symptom: Playback colour OK (lines on top of picture). Record colour poor.
Cause: C3043 leaky.
Remedy: Replace C3043 (ECUM1H104ZFN).
Applicable Models: SD260/SD410
Symptom: No colour recorded
Cause: C3038 leaky.
Remedy: Replace C3038 (ECUM1H104ZFN).

SOFTWARE UPGRADE
SYMPTOMS: 1. Timer recording doesn't start, due to date being incorrectly
set by the VCR.
2. After initial auto-setup is completed, BBC1 or BBC2 name
is not stored on the list.
3. Playback of PDC recording does not have sound.
REMEDY: Applicable serial numbers. Countermeasure for any of the above
symptoms: From serial number F5B.....to G5B.........,
(i) Replace Timer IC (IC7701), Part No. M37507V4CJ
and
(ii) Replace OSD IC (IC7701), Part No. SD200OSDKIT
From serial number H5B.......to A6B......
(i) Replace OSD IC (IC7701)*
*Replacement IC7701 is supplied as a kit (SD200OSDKIT) consisting
of 2 IC's, use only 1 IC. To identify which IC in the kit is needed,
look at the model number label on the rear of the unit.
(i) If there is a letter `E' after the model number (eg NV-SD200E)
use IC M27C512MBPA
(ii) If there is no letter `E' after the model number
use ICM27C512MBQA
