Subject: A-board And B-board Production Changes: Date: January 5, 2000
Old And New Versions Are Not Compatible.
Symptom:
(****) The design of the A-board and B-board was changed in early December 1999 to add
V-Chip capability for analog and digital programs, and Closed Captioning for digital
programs. The model number of the set was not changed. All other boards used in
the new version of the set are the same as the boards used in the former version of
the set.
The digital receiver box (set-back box or "SBB") supplied with the new version set has
firmware version 2.20 or higher. The version number can be read out from the
service mode in category "DTV", adjustment item "AGCL", data "1". It is O.K. to use a
new version SBB with a former version set. The only difference is that now the
customer will have Closed Captioning for digital programs which was not available
with the former version SBB. All SBB's being supplied from the World Repair Parts
Center have version 2.20 firmware or higher.
