Chapter 2 Disassembly

2.1. Introduction


This chapter explains on the subject of disassembling the duplexer, showing pictures,
required to replace parts in the duplexer.

Note that the duplexer requires no lubrication at any of its parts.

2.2. Disassembly


This section provides the procedures for disasembly of the main components of the
duplexer. You will also find the exploded diagrams in the parts catalogue helpful for this
purpose.


Before proceeding with disassembly, be sure to read the notes below:


Before removing the duplexer from the printer, be sure to turn off printer
power.


Be sure to use the correct screws when installing a component. Using incorrect
screws can result in the threads of the screws being stripped, which may lead
in turn to other problems. Frequent insertion and removal of selftapping
screws can cause damage to screw holes. Do not tighten screws with an exces-
sive torque (force).


When removing or installing circuit boards (PWB), wear a ground wrist strap to
protect against damage due to discharge of stacic electricity.


Gently lift the printer so that it is separate from the duplexer.


Warning--The printer is heavy: Be sure to ask other persons for assistance.

2.2.1. Removing the reversing unit

Pull the reversing unit towards the front to remvoe the reversing unit.

2.2.2. Removing the feed unit

Remove the screw (1) at the left and right sides of the feed cover.




On the feed cover front side, remove the two screws (2).




The left and right side covers can then removed.

Remove the screws (1) and remove the protective cover. Remove the screw (2) and remove
the protective cover on the other side.




Remove the screws (1 and 2) and remove the duplexer base.

Remove the screw (1) and remove the right side support plate.




Remove the wire clamps (1). Remove the connectors 2, 3, and 4; then remove the connec-
tors.

Remove the feed unit by slowly lifting it.

2.2.3. Removing the motor control board

Remove the screws (1) and remove the rear cover.




Remove the connectors (below) and remove the board.

2.2.4. Disassembling the reversing unit

Remove the rear guide: Disengage the rear guide at the following points.




Remove the upper front guide: Disengage the upper front guide at the following points.

The lower front guide can be accessed for removal when the upper front guide has been
removed. To remove the lower front guide, disengage the lower front guide at the follow-
ing points.

Remove the two screws (1); disengage the catches at the bottom; and remove the front
cover.




Detach the connector located behind (right side of) the front cover.

2.2.5. Removing the motor

Remove the screw (1) and remove the motor cover.




Remove the screw (1); remove the connectors (2, 3, and 4); and remove the motor mount.
