Model: DVD-2800, ADV-700


Subject: Countermeasure for playback interruption.


Symptom:
1) (1) TARZAN (1/2, Region 1): Sometimes the sound interrupts during the
playback of chapter 36 on the disc.
(2)-1. HOLLOW MAN (Dual, OPT, R2): The picture and sound interrupts at 1-
hour: 37 minutes and 42 seconds on the disc.
(2)-2. TOMORROW NEVER DIES (Dual, OPT, R1): The picture stops at 1-hour:
35 minutes: 40 ~ 46 seconds on the disc.
2) After loading the disc YA&YA8, small letters appear on the screen after
displaying DVD Logo. If the Top Menu is pressed, it takes five to ten seconds
until the Menu is displayed.

Solution: DVD-2800 upgrade:
1) Replacement of the Drive-MICON.
(a) Remove the TOP Cover. (Refer to the Service Manual X-0111, page 8.)
(b) Remove the Loader Panel and Mecha Unit from the unit. (Refer to the pages
8~9 Service Manual X-0111.)
(c) Remove the MAIN PWB (GU-3333) from the Mecha Unit. (Refer to page 10
in the Service Manual X-0111.)
(d) Remove the IC511, Drive-MICON from the MAIN PWB (GU-3333).
(e) Install the modification part (262 2911 203, TMP95CW64F-3H13) on the
MAIN PWB.
(f) Re-assemble the unit according to the counter procedures of the items (a) to
(c).

2) Alteration of the ESS Firmware:
(a) Record the file (File name: bank30.rom, Date: 2001-10-2) on a CD-R or CD-
RW, and rewrite the firmware.
(b) For the firmware rewrite procedure, please refer to the Service bulletin OST-
641.

3) Confirmation and Initialization:
(a) Turn off the Power Switch of the unit. While holding the OPEN and PLAY
buttons down, turn the Power Switch ON. Then, press MENU button on the
remote control unit and make sure that the "DRV 1-66" is displayed on the FL
display at the first depression of the button and "ESS 5250" is displayed at the
second depression.
(b) Turn off the Power, and turn on the Power again. Press the REV SKIP,
PAUSE and OPEN/CLOSE buttons simultaneously for longer than three
seconds, and make sure that the FL Tube indicates "INITIALIZE".

ADV-700 upgrade:
1) Replacement of the Drive-MICON.
(a) Remove the Top Cover. (Refer to the Service Manual S-1091, page 7.)
(b) Remove the Front Panel and Mecha Unit from the unit. (Refer to the Service
Manual S-1091, pages 7 to 8.)
(c) Disconnect the MAIN PWB (GU-3333) from the Mecha Unit. (Refer to the
Service Manual S-1091, page 10.)
(d) Remove the IC511 (Drive-MICON) on the MAIN PWB (GU-3333).
(e) Attach the modification part (262 6911 203, TMP95CW64F-3H13) to where
the IC511 has been placed.
(f) Re-assemble the unit according to the counter procedures of the items (a)
and (c).

Alteration of the Firmware:
(1) Record the file (File name: ADV700.rom, Date: 2001-10-2) on a CD-R or
CD-RW, and rewrite the firmware.
(2) For the firmware rewrite procedure, please refer to the Service Information
OST-641.
