Subject: Laser Power Measurement Correction Factors. Symptom: (**)

Date: December 27, 1994

Laser power measurements made with the LPM-8001 laser power meter (part number J-2501-046-A) will actually be somewhat lower than the actual laser power, and therefore must be corrected to reflect the true power level. The amount of correction is dependant upon which which laser mode is being measured at the time.

Solution:

CD Read Power and MO Read Power: Multiply the power specification shown in the service manual by 0.94, and then adjust the laser power so that the re-calculated power level is read on the power meter. MO Write Power: Multiply the power specification shown in the service manual by 0.92, and then adjust the laser power so that the re-calculated power level is read on the power meter.

EXAMPLE:

MO write power spec. shown in manual = 6.8 mW 6.8 mW x 0.92 = 6.26 mW Adjust MO write power so that 6.26 mW is read in the laser power meter.
