WHAT DO YOU NEED?
PC - Windows 95/98 (some reports that Windows NT and VirtualPC are working with PanaTest)
free serial port
Panasonic DVC
still capture cable (how to make - http://www.cis.tu-graz.ac.at/wb/dvin/panautil.htm)

HOW CAN I ENABLE (DISABLE) DVIN?
Connect PC and DVC, turn DVC on and switch to VCR mode. Run PanaTest.
Check Com port and click on Read button.
You should see:
1. line - Address F8 (1st column) and its code (2nd column), this can be used for identification DVC (62 is DA1 and so on).
2. line - Address F7 (1st column - address field) and its code (2nd column - read code field), this says you if DV in enable or disable (look table above).
If the connection is wrong, you'll see message box and XX in code fields.
If you know right code, put it in field above Write button (3rd column - written code field) and you can write it to cam by clicking on Write button.
Use only capital characters (A, B, C, D, E, F) or digits (0..9). If you put wrong character (for e.g. ff, b8, ...), you'll get warning message and non code is written to cam. Allways note address and code before and after writing!
After succesfully writing to cam you'll see written code in read code field.
Some models need to change code of address 30:
Click on address on 2nd line (F7 in this case), delete it and put 30 in address field. Click on Read button. Note the code. Put right code (table above) in written code field and click Write.

If you are finished, turn DVC off for no less then 5 sec.

WARNING!!!
Be carefull. If you use wrong codes or addresses you may damage your cam!
Close Panatest and turn off cam before connecting or disconnecting, you may damage your port!

Read my page DVin (http://www.volny.cz/mkrejcik) for detailed description. There you can find some FAQ and news about it. If you have one of cam with known codes and it seems not to work, first of all try to find problem in driver or software comming with your 1394 card. It is difficult to check working/not working DVin without 1394 card.

SOME NOTES
You can find program PanaList on my pages. You can list safely all VCR mode EEPROM (or NVRAM - I am not sure which) by this program. This may be helpfull for others model of cams.
These programs use commands like DV studio (sw from still capture kit) or PanaRec. This means if your cam (not listed above) works with these programs, probably will be work with PanaTest and PanaList.

I am not profi programmer in C++. I am working in development, I make programs for controllers or control systems, I develop industrial cam systems (machine vision) and ... , I am very free in my work. Video editing is my hobby. I made this program for enabling DV in of my NV-DA1 and give it to you for free (I am in war with czech companies, which want about 130$ for enabling DV in).

Of course, I am sure, that I did language's mistakes in this text, but my teacher of English is on holiday (she is pretty, pleasant woman from Virginia).

SEND ME MAIL
If you know some others codes, mail me, please. If you have any problem (or success)
with program or some experiencies, you can mail me too, I like to help you (if I'll have time).
