PhotoStacker Pro Version 1.00
================================

Thank you for using PhotoStacker Pro. This readme file contains
information that is not fully documented elsewhere. When you have
finished reading this file, choose "Exit" from the File menu to
return to Program Manager.

1. A 256-color super VGA or more colors display card is
recommended. It is OK if you are using a 16-color VGA card;
however, color quality of your images may be slightly inferior.
PhotoStacker Pro can compensate for that and display images
as well as possible.

2. You can run PhotoStacker Pro under Windows 3.1 or later version.

3. PhotoStacker Pro supports a number of compression options
that are not supported by other software. If you are trying to
export JPEG files compressed by PhotoStacker Pro to other
software, it is recommended that you use Sequential DCT and
set Vertical Sampling to 1:1:1 and Horizontal Sampling to 1:1:1
or 2:1:1 for compatibility.

4. This version of PhotoStacker Pro does NOT support Arithmetic
Coding. If you want to import a file that is compressed using
Arithmetic Coding by the old version of PhotoStacker, you ought
to decompress the file using the old version and then import the
decompressed file to PhotoStacker Pro.

5. Sequential DCT and Progressive DCT Compression Method:

After the compression process is completed, PhotoStacker Pro
displays the "FAScinator JPEG Library" dialog box on the
screen, not only showing information about the result of the
compression, but also providing you with option to view the
compressed image. Click "OK" button to exit the dialog box,
or click "VIEW" button to view the compressed image. After
viewing the compressed image, close the view window to exit.
If you click the Control-menu box at the upper-left corner of
the View window, you will see a drop-down menu. In this
menu, the listed commands such as "Zoom", "Actual Pixel",
"Fit in Window", "Image Info", and "System", are the same as
those commands in the "View" function of main menu; the
"Background Redraw" command is the same as "repaint
inactive window(s)" listed in the Preference option.

6. Notes about using scanner TWAIN Source:

In the TWAIN Source included in PhotoStakcer Pro, TWAIN source is
changed in such a way that when you click OK after the scanning is
completed, it transfers the scanned image to host application, but
the TWAIN Source is still opened to let you make the next scanning.
It is for your convenience to leave the TWAIN Source opened and switch
to host applicaion to do other job. Anyway, you can switch back and
forth among all applications at this time. If you want to close the
TWAIN Source, just switch back to TWAIN Source and click EXIT button.

7. The Scan Window of scanner TWAIN Source displays the part
of the image that has been scanned. If the image to be scanned is
smaller than the Scan Window, the whole image can be entirely
displayed. However, if the image is larger than the Scan
Window, it is impossible to display the entire image on the
screen at once. To solve this problem, scanner TWAIN Source
provides three display modes: LOOP, SCROLL, and DISABLE.

In "LOOP" mode, the scanned image is divided into a series of
blocks each in the size of the Scan Window and being
displayed one after another. Each block replaces its previous
one starting from the top part of the Scan Window.

If you choose the "SCROLL" mode, the displayed image
scrolls along inside the Scan Window as you roll your scanner
over the image.

If "DISABLE" is chosen, there won't be any display inside the
Scan Window until the completion of the scanning. Because
displaying image in the Scan Window slows down the scanner's
scanning speed, you will get the maximal scanning speed if the
"DISABLE" mode is selected. On the Contrary, you will get
the minimal scanning speed if the "SCROLL" mode is selected.
To select the display mode, choose the Preview command in
the Control Menu Box of ViewScan Source window, then a
drop down menu containing Loop, Scroll, and Disable appears
and select your desired mode. The default display mode is
LOOP.

8. PhotoStacker Pro provides you with powerful stitching features
capable of stitching two fragmented images into one image. You
can either manually drag one fragmented image to match
identical details with the other, or let PhotoStacker Pro stitch
them in either a semi-automatic or a fully-automatic mode.

9. If you are not satisfied with the result from AutoStitch in
scanner TWAIN Source, you can use manual or semi-automatic stitch
as an alternative. To use them, scan the first strip from the
TWAIN Source into PhotoStacker Pro, and then select the
"Stitch From" command from the Edit menu. Choosing the
"Stitch From" command will display a submenu listing three
source options from which the second strip is to be obtained.
The three options are: Clipboard, File, and Image Source. For
detailed instructions, refer to your PhotoStacker Pro User's
Manual. We recommend you use semi-automatic stitch, it is a fast
and power function to stitch your images.

10.Convert black & white image to grayscale image

Since the saved image type in Scan Options Dialog Box is default
to grayscale, the scanned image is always converted to grayscale
even though your scanner is set in black & white mode. If you want
to get black & white image, just change the saved image type in
Scan Options Dialog Box to Black & White.
