Subject: RF/Servo Board Procedure when replacing Optical Device Symptom: (****)

The original optical device KMS-140B, (Ref. #21) P/N 8-583-003-21, has been replaced by the KMS-140C (P/N 8-583-005-11). After replacing the optical device, you may find that the unit will play CD discs but not MO discs. Proper adjustment also may not be possible after replacing the optics.

Solution:

Perform the following procedure on the conductor side of the RF/SERVO Board: · · Cut the pattern at the location shown below. Remove the resist on the board at the spots indicated, and bridge the two points using a thin wire.

Remove the resist at the indicated spot. Solder the positive lead of a 10uf 35V Tantalum Capacitor (P/N 1-131-353-00) to the clean trace (see diagram below). Solder the negative lead to either C287 or C254. Verify that the height of the capacitor does not exceed 8mm (0.31 in.).
