7.3 CIRCUIT DESCRIPTIONS
- The principle of class-D amplifier.
A class-D amplifier uses (Pulse Wide Modulation) PWM . This means that the original signal Vin(sine-waved signal) at the input is modulated with another signal Vm which has a much higher fixed frequency. The waveform which is used as carrier wave or modulation signal is normally a triangle-shaped signal.

A

B

Vin: input signal (sine-waved signal) Vm: modulated signal (triangle-shaped signal) Vd: output signal (pulse width modulated signal) The Vd signal has a fundamental frequency equal to that of the modulation frequency Fm (the frequency of the modulation signal Vm) but will also contain the input signal and a band of frequency components around the modulation frequency. The original signal Fvin is selected with a low pass filter, cutting the high frequencies around the modulation frequency Fm.

C

D

E

Fvin: original signal Fc: cut off frequency Fm: modulation frequency

- Circuit Description
IC401 (TDA7570) is class D Chip with internal Analog to Digital Converter. (See an IC information block) IC401 (TDA7570) digitizes the analog waveform and uses PWM at 310kHz Rail to Rail Square wave to generate an audio signal that is then recovered by the 4th order LC filter.

If you hear a beat while listening to an MW/LW broadcast with your car stereo, change the BFC switch using a small standard tip screwdriver.

Gain Control and Bass Level Control

GM-D505/XH/EW

Adjusting the gain controls A and B and the bass level control (CH SUB) will help match the output of the car stereo to the Pioneer amplifier. Normally, set these controls to the "NORMAL (NORM.)" position. If the output is low, even when the volume of the car stereo is turned up, turn these controls clockwise. If there is distortion when the volume of the car stereo is turned up, turn these controls counter-clockwise.

HPF (High-Pass Filter) Select Switch (CH A and CH B)
Set the HPF select switch as follows according to the type of speaker that is connected to the speaker output connector and the car stereo system: HPF Select Switch
OFF (Left) HPF (Right)

· If you only use one input plug, set the gain controls for speaker outputs A and B to the same position. · When using with an RCA equipped car stereo (standard output of 500 mV), set to the NORMAL position. When using with an RCA equipped Pioneer car stereo with max. output of 4 V or more, adjust level to match the car stereo output level. · When you want to boost bass, turn the bass level control clockwise.

Remarks

Cut Off Frequency Control
You can select a cut off frequency from 40 to 240 Hz.

4

Use if you want to cut the very low frequency range because it is not necessary for the speakers you are using.
