Section 2 Basic Adjustment
This section describes the adjustment procedure of the Sony LCD monitor LMD-182MD.

2-2. White Balance Adjustment
n Establish the following setup and perform the white balance adjustment in the following setup unless specified otherwise. BRIGHT : "50" CONTRAST : "80" (1) HIGH Adjustment (9300K) 1. Connect a signal of 1024 x 768 with 60 Hz at 0 IRE to the input connector of a computer. 2. Select "HIGH" from the color temperature adjustment menu of the service mode.

2-1. Preparation
. Required tools and measuring equipment Luminance meter : Minolta LCD Color Analzer CA-110 or equivalent If Minolta LCD Color Analzer CA110 or equivalent is not available, make adjustment by comparing the LCD monitor with the reference CRT monitor that has already been calibrated correctly. Signal generator : VG-854 or equivalent . Preparation of luminance meter Place the light receptor block of the luminance meter about 30 cm away from the monitor screen as shown.

. Warming Up Before starting adjustment, allow a warm-up of minimum 30 minutes. . How to Enter Service Mode (factory mode) 1. Turn on the main power. 2. Press the front panel switches in the following order. [ENTER] [ENTER] [LEFT] [ENTER] [UP] n The desired screen display language can be selected from the seven languages. When the Service Mode (factory mode) is going to be selected, select English (ENG) as the screen display language. (Refer to Operation Manual for the procedure of selecting the screen display language.)

3. Adjust "BIAS R", "BIAS G" and "BIAS B" respectively to the positions where LCD element is going to start emitting light. Take note of the adjustment value. 4. Connect a signal of 1024 x 768 with 60 Hz at 100 IRE WINDOW (40% x 50%) to the input connector of a computer. 5. Adjust "GAIN R", "GAIN G" and "GAIN B" respectively until chromaticity of the LCD display meets the following specifications. Specifications : x : 0.283 ± 0.002 y : 0.298 ± 0.002 6. Connect a video signal of 20 IRE WINDOW (40% x 50%) to the input connector of a computer. 7. Adjust "BIAS R", "BIAS G" and "BIAS B" respectively until chromaticity of the LCD display meets the following specifications while the values that are adjusted in step 3 must not be exceeded. Specifications : x : 0.283 ± 0.002 y : 0.298 ± 0.002 8. Repeat steps 4 to 7 until all of the required specifications are met all at the same time. 9. Select "SAVE TO MEMORY" from the color temperature adjustment menu of the service mode to save the adjustment data.

(2) LOW Adjustment (6500K) 1. Connect a signal of 1024 x 768 with 60 Hz at 0 IRE to the input connector of a computer. 2. Select "LOW" from the color temperature adjustment menu of the service mode.

(3) BKM Input LOW Adjustment 1. Install the Input Adapter BKM-129X to the input option slot. 2. Connect a video signal of fh: 15 kHz, fv: 60 Hz at 0 IRE RGB signal to analog input connector. 3. Select the RGB mode from the INPUT of the LCD display. 4. Select "LOW" from the color temperature adjustment menu of the service mode.

3. Enter the adjustment values of "BIAS R", "BIAS G" and "BIAS B" that are obtained at step 3. of the HIGH Adjustment (9300K) to "BIAS R", "BIAS G" and "BIAS B" inputs respectively. 4. Connect a signal of 1024 x 768 with 60 Hz at 100 IRE WINDOW (40% x 50%) to the input connector of a computer. 5. Adjust "GAIN R", "GAIN G" and "GAIN B" respectively until chromaticity of the LCD display meets the following specifications. Specifications : x : 0.313 ± 0.002 y : 0.329 ± 0.002 6. Connect a video signal of 20 IRE WINDOW (40% x 50%) to the input connector of a computer. 7. Adjust "BIAS R", "BIAS G" and "BIAS B" respectively until chromaticity of the LCD display meets the following specifications while the values that are adjusted in step 3 must not be exceeded. Specifications : x : 0.313 ± 0.002 y : 0.329 ± 0.002 8. Repeat steps 4 to 7 until all of the required specifications are met all at the same time. 9. Select "SAVE TO MEMORY" from the color temperature adjustment menu of the service mode to save the adjustment data.

(4) BKM Input HIGH Adjustment 1. Select "HIGH" from the color temperature adjustment menu of the service mode.

(5) Cb, Cr Offset Adjustment 1. Connect the 480/60i (fh : 15 kHz, fv : 60 Hz) WINDOW component signal at 20 IRE to the input connector. 2. Set INPUT of the LCD monitor to COMPONENT. 3. Set the CHROMA to the maximum. 4. Check that the color temperature is set to "LOW". 5. Select "RGB MATRIX" from the device adjustment screen of the service mode.

2. Enter the adjustment values of "BIAS R", "BIAS G" and "BIAS B" that are obtained at step 5. of the item (3) BKM Input LOW Adjustment (6500K) to "BIAS R", "BIAS G" and "BIAS B" inputs respectively. 3. Connect a signal of 100 IRE WINDOW (40% x 50%) to the input connector of a computer. 4. Adjust "GAIN R", "GAIN G" and "GAIN B" respectively until chromaticity of the LCD display meets the following specifications while the values that are adjusted in step 5 of the previous item "(3). BKM Input LOW Adjustment", must not be exceeded. Specifications : x : 0.283 ± 0.002 y : 0.298 ± 0.002 5. Connect a video signal of 20 IRE WINDOW (40% x 50%) to the analog input connector. 6. Adjust "BIAS R", "BIAS G" and "BIAS B" respectively until chromaticity of the LCD display meets the following specifications while the values that are adjusted in step 2 must not be exceeded. Specifications : x : 0.283 ± 0.002 y : 0.298 ± 0.002 7. Repeat steps 3 to 6 until all of the required specifications are met all at the same time. 8. Select "SAVE TO MEMORY" from the color temperature adjustment menu of the service mode to save the adjustment data.

6. Adjust "16 MTRX/CB OFFSET" and " 18 MTRX/CR OFFSET " respectively until chromaticity of the LCD display meets the following specifications. Specifications : x : 0.313 ± 0.002 y : 0.329 ± 0.002 7. Connect the 1080/60i (fh: 33.75 kHz, fv: 60 Hz) WINDOW (40% x 50%) component signal at 20 IRE to the input connector. 8. Adjust "17 MTRX/CB OFFSET" and " 19 MTRX/CR OFFSET " respectively until chromaticity of the LCD display meets the following specifications. Specifications : x : 0.313 ± 0.002 y : 0.329 ± 0.002 9. Return the CHROMA to "50".

Section 3 Electrical Adjustment
3-1. B Board Adjustment
3-1-1. Preparation
. Required tools and measuring equipment Oscilloscope Signal generator (VG-854 or equivalent) . Preparation of signal Use the output signals from VG-854 that meet the following signal specifications. The DTV signal output must be input via the BKM129X. The DTV signal output form VG-854 must be sync-ongreen. . Types of signal YPBP SMPTE/EBU-N10 (601, 709) 100% color bar signal (BKM-129X input level) Y 700 ± 5 mVp-p B-Y (PB) 700 ± 5 mVp-p R-Y (PR) 700 ± 5 mVp-p COMP SYNC 5 ± 0.5 Vp-p (negative polarity)

3-1-2. 15 kHz Component Signal Adjustment (BLACK level adjustment)
1. Select the VG-854 signal format of 15 kHz/60 Hz YPBPR SMPTE (601) 100% color bar signal. 2. Set INPUT of the LCD monitor to COMPONENT. 3. Connect an oscilloscope to TP1310. 4. Adjust the "20 MTRX/PB BLACK" data until the pedestal level becomes flat as shown in Fig. 3-1.
Make this portion flat.

5. Connect an oscilloscope to TP1311. 6. Adjust the "21 MTRX/PR BLACK" data until the pedestal level becomes flat as shown in Fig. 3-2.

1. Select the VG-854 signal format of 31 kHz/60 Hz YPBPR SMPTE (601) 100% color bar signal. 2. Set INPUT of the LCD monitor to COMPONENT. 3. Repeat steps 3 to 6 section 3-1-2. 4. Select the VG-854 signal format of 31 kHz/50 Hz YPBPR SMPTE (601) 100% color bar signal.
