(170-2213/4) NAM Programming

The 170-2213 and the 170-2214 are both the same telephone. The only
difference is where they are sold.

NOKIA 2170 SERIES CELLULAR TELEPHONE NAM PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS

NOKIA 2170 cellular telephones are capable of supporting authentication.
To change the value of the A-Key, the programmer must use the Complete NAM
Programming Instructions presented lower on this sheet, or by following
the industry procedure identified in TSB-50. Use the complete NAM
programming Instructions when advanced programming options require
modifications to advanced programming parameters. The clear key can be
used to correct mistakes.

MENU DRIVEN EASY NAM PROGRAMMING FOR NOKIA 2170 HANDPORTABLES

#639# : 1. Turn on Phone and Enter Access Code.
*#639#

Phone : 2. Enter the 10 Digit Area Code and Phone Number and Press
Number the TALK Key (or the 'OK' softkey in display).

SID & : 3. Enter System ID Code (SID) Supplied by the Service
options Provider (1-5 Digit SID) and Press The TALK (or 'OK')
Key.

Optional Settings are Language and Lock Code (See below).

SAVE : 4. Press OK to Store new values.
CHANGES?

ACTIVATION : Programming is Completed.
OK
Phone Automatically Powers Off and Then Back On.

NOTE: Change the Lock code by adding a pound sign and new lock code after
the SID. (Example: 42#7788: Lock code = 7788).

Change the Language by adding a pound sign and new language code
after the code (Example: 42#2: Language = Spanish).

Language Code: 0 (default) = English. 1 = French and 2 = Spanish.

Change the Lock Code and Language code by separating each set of
numbers by a pound sign (Example: 42#7788#2: Where the SID = 0042,
Lock Code = 7788 and Language = Spanish).

COMPLETE NAM PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS

ACCESS NAM PROGRAMMING MODE:

1. Turn the phone on. Enter the NAM access code. Factory default is
# 3 0 0 1 # 1 2 3 4 5 [Menu].

2. If this screen appears, you have entered NAM programming mode.

Note: If this screen does not appear after several attempts, then the
access code has been changed and the phone must be returned to
the original purchase location for programming. Press the
[Select] softkey to modify the data to the right of the pointer.

MAIN MENU SELECTION

3. Press the [Arrow-Key] up or down until the indicator points at the
desired menu option.

4. Press the [Select] softkey to access the Sub-Menu from any of the
above Main Menu selections. The chart below is a reference of the
available after highlighting NAM 1 and pressing the [Select] softkey.

PROGRAMMING NAM 1:

5. Press the [Arrow-Key] to scroll through the selected NAM list of
parameters. All available setting options are shown below.

6. To change the displayed value, press the [Select] softkey and use the
numeric keypad to make any changes.

7. Use the [OK] softkey to store the new information that has been
entered.

8. Repeat steps 6 through 8 for the remaining NAM parameter options to be
viewed and/or changed.

PROGRAMMING THE SECURITY CODE:

9. From the Main Menu, use the [Arrow-Key] to select the Security
Sub-Menu, press [Select] and the current 5-digit security code will
appear in the display. Default is 12345.

10. To change the Security Code, use the numeric keys to enter the new
value.

11. Press the softkey [OK] to store changes.

Note: Changing the Security Code automatically changes the Lock Code to
the last 4-digits of the new Security Code.

PROGRAMMING EMERGENCY NUMBERS: (Optional):

12. From the Main Menu use the Arrow-key to select the Emergency Sub-Menu,
press the [Select] softkey. Default values are:
EMERGENCY NUMBER 1 (911) / EMERGENCY NUMBER 2 (*911) / EMERGENCY
NUMBER 3 (None).

13. If you wish to change the default value shown above, use the
[Arrow-Key] to select the emergency number you wish to change and
press [Select]. Then use the numeric keys to enter the new values.

14. Press the [OK] softkey to save the value.

15. Press [QUIT] to avoid saving changes.

SERIAL NUMBER (ESN):

16. From the Main Menu, use the arrow-key to display the Electronic Serial
Number (ESN) of the phone.

17. Press [Quit] or [OK] to exit the menu.

A-KEY CODE: (Optional):

18. Press the [Select] softkey while the "A-Key Code" is displayed.

19. Enter the new A-Key and check sum that was calculated by the service
providers' security administrator.

20. Press [OK] to store the new a-Key value.

INIT LOCK:

The INIT LOCK feature is a functionality prohibiting electronic lock that
prevents the phone from being used. Its operation resembles the Automatic
Lock feature that is located in the Security Options menu of this product.
The difference is that once the INIT LOCK set to ON and then unlocked, the
phone remains unlocked indefinitely. This particular lock function is
designed to be enabled during NAM programming to support security during
its distribution to the end-customer. The code to unlock this feature is
only available from the Service Provider that holds the respective
subscription.

FIELD TEST:

The FIELD TEST MODE is used to investigate how the phone and cellular
system interact. The FIELD TEST information covers signal strength,
battery charging status, cellular state and encryption status. The
information is organized to display information relating to the air
interface with the network. Pressing ABC during an active display will
present acronyms in the display to identify the purpose of each data
field.

To activate the FIELD TEST mode the phone must be in NAM programming mode.
Instructions for entering NAM programming are shown above. Use the
following steps to enable the FIELD TEST mode.

I. From the Main Menu use the [Arrow-Key] to display the "FIELD TEST"
menu and press the [Select] soft key. Use the [Arrow-Key] to select
Enable and press the [OK] softkey.

II. Turn the 2170 off then back on. Once the power up self test is
completed, the FIELD TEST display will begin automatically. Scroll
through the different displays using the [Arrow-Key].

To disable the FIELD TEST mode. Return to NAM programming mode and
disable the function under the FIELD TEST menu.

EXITING NAM PROGRAMMING:

21. To exit the NAM programming mode, turn the phone off and leave it off
for five seconds. Then turn it back on.
