OPR-N161-RA-11 Strait of Georgia, WA
The Strait of Geogia, WA will be surveyed by NOAA Ship RAINIER during the 2011 survey season. The purpose of this project is to provide contemporary surveys to update National Ocean Service (NOS) nautical charts. This project will cover approximately 45 square nautical miles of navigationally significant areas as designated in NOAA Hydrographic Survey Priorities, 2010 edition. The data will also address the concerns of the Puget Sound Pilots over shoals in the vicinity of Cherry Point/Ferndale, which is the largest oil tanker terminus in Washington. The area is very dynamic in nature and has seen changes in vessel traffic due to the recently doubling of capacity at Cherry Point. A tide gauge will be installed to support this project, as well as other CO-OPS projects, including VDatum devlopment.
