Symptom
Playback appears to have no head switching also VCR has no playback sound. On screen
menu is in a foreign language and front buttons do not operate as they are labeled. Test
switches do not operate.
Cause
The above symptoms may occur due to a mains supply interruption.
Cure
The above machines are effectively locked up and need to be released from this lockout before
you can enter service mode and re enter the NVM data.
V852UK Hold audio dub button on remote control for more than 10 secs, then immediately
proceed as per the NVRam option setting instructions on the next page.
V752UK, V711UK, V701UK, V632UK. To release these models try: Front eject button, Any
front button or short the contacts on any ghost button on the pcb, then proceed with NVRam
procedure on the next page.

The above procedure will normally recover a locked up VCR but it should be borne in mind that
the machine could revert to this condition again if a similar mains interruption is encountered. In
areas where mains supply interruptions are more common it may be advisable to replace the
main microprocessor IC601 with a new improved type available from our spares department
